When God decides to try yet again to save humanity from its own excesses and folly, and this time to try a secular rather than a religious approach, a train of events is set into motion which lands two Midwestern American teens, sixteen-year-old Nikki Greene and her boyfriend, seventeen-year-old Chris Ashton, in the midst of the greatest adventure of all time.
Cast back in time to medieval England in the year 1328, at first the only thing the two young Americans have going for them is the fact that Chris has always been a bookworm, one who's always loved reading medieval English history. Even Chris soon finds himself out of his depth, however, as he and Nikki find themselves caught in a web of royal intrigue.
Along the way the two teens meet some of the most famous (and infamous) characters of the High Middle Ages; but although they realize early on that they've been relocated in time for a purpose, and that that purpose is to try to make the world of the future a better place, they're both at a loss as to just what to do, since it's been made clear from the beginning of their adventure that their decisions, although they will affect the future and the lives of uncounted billions of people, will be left strictly up to them.
Just how much information about the future is safe for the two teens to share? What, if anything, could they or should they do about the "Black Death," which Chris knows will arrive in England in only twenty years? What can they do, or should they do, about the "Hundred Years' War," which Chris realizes will begin soon? Who would believe them even if they did try to tell their new medieval contemporaries what lies ahead? And might they not, by sharing too much information, in fact place far too much power into the wrong hands, and thereby possibly make the world they've come from even worse than it was?
Although the book contains no scenes of graphic sexuality, it does contain strong language which some people might consider offensive, the two teens who are the main characters in the story are involved in a physical relationship, and the book is therefore probably not suitable for children under the age of sixteen.
